I’m a little late posting my week of Joy for October 22 – 28. This will always be a difficult week for me. My husband passed two years ago on October 26. Through my grief, though, I did find the Joy that was out there. My youngest went in the poring rain on the day and laid a dozen red roses at the base of his father’s memorial tree. The next day my daughter asked me if I wanted to walk to his tree. I did and we planted Crocus corms to hopefully bloom next Spring. My sister-in-law sent a text from Scotland and two of my husband’s best friends sent emails and ecards. Everything helped to bring Joy to an otherwise Joyless week.<\/p>\n

I did several 10kms walks through Mud Creek and back. These are enriching. I am now carrying an 8lb backpack with ease on these walks. I picked up the Rosamunde Pilcher book I had ordered from the library – “Coming Home.” I didn’t realize that it was almost 1000 pages. I may never get back to Demon Copperhead.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Orders continue at work, which helps to keep my mind on the tasks at hand. I look with unmitigated fear at the unraked leaves in the garden. I still have to cover the roses, move the raised bed and put away all the festive trappings of Summer – patio umbrella, bike rack, small bistro table for morning coffees outside. Sigh!<\/p>\n

OK, it’s time to look at the festive season ahead, which always brings me Joy. Maybe I have to actually clean the house before Christmas. There is something to be said for the joylessness of the routine, it makes those moments of real Joy spectacular!!<\/p>\n
