I haven’t worked on the few websites I “own” in a while. However, I missed the regular writing of posts. I missed the struggle and positive resolution of “outwitting” WordPress. I missed feeling “young” again. Enter “Life is What Happens.” Coding, manipulating files, understanding techspeak and successfully creating an interface that works give me Joy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In my last post I noted that I was able to transfer almost 1,500 posts from Blogger to WordPress using the plugin BtW. I was amazed at my ability to do this. OK I know it wasn’t me. It was the ease of the plugin, but I will still claim the victory because I could read, understand and follow the instructions. I then added pages to my site. They were the usual – About Me, Contact, Books etc. The pages did not accept the global formatting of the posts pages. I took on the challenge of making my site look at least integrated. Several hours later and after many google inquiries all the pages have the same formatting as the posts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everything worked on the desktop version of the site, however, the mobile version was a mess. There were incorrect pages, posts weren’t showing and the menu was something from a “mess-hall.” More google inquires with fewer direct answers ensued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. I purged the cache in my browser – Safari<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. I installed another browser – Duck Duck Go<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. I fiddled with the choices in “customize.”<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Finally I unchecked and rechecked as many options as I could find anywhere and filled in blank spaces with repeated options.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Number 4 worked. I now have a decent looking site on a mobile as well – Persistence thy name is Pride. I now feel very proud of myself for working with my fractured logic to correct some technical issues on a website. I do miss going directly into the HTML which I used to build several sites long ago. I’ll accept graciously what I can do now. However, I do need to have the timer sound on my phone so I stop making hard boiled eggs for soft ones \u2026\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The picture? Winter persists. I did walk 10kms to The Brickworks and back last Friday after a magnificent snowfall.
