I try to make sense of my life, of the world, of the universe. John O\u2019Donohue tells us in his book, Walking in Wonder, that God is our thoughts. We as thinking beings are the divine. That would be amazing except that many who are in power are a lot less godlike than I would have expected. Maybe they don\u2019t think.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">O\u2019Donohue also tells us that God is in the \u201cAbsence.\u201d Look for him in the pauses, in the silences and in the vacuums. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mary Oliver finds him in the present, in sunrise, in bird flight and in elation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I look for the divine in despair. When I need strength to make sense of it all, I empty my mind. I create an absence. I make room for a wisp of inspiration to get me through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/lifeiswhathappens.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/img_0722-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12963\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lifeiswhathappens.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/img_0722-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/lifeiswhathappens.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/img_0722-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/lifeiswhathappens.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/img_0722-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/lifeiswhathappens.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/img_0722.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s easier to find God in mountains, oceans and skies, immense, powerful entities. However, most of the time I hope to find him in small nuances &#8211; a smile, a circle of light, a spot of colour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If I gather all these minuscule gems together, will I have the riches of Sheba and will I be standing at the gates of a kingdom?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From Mary Oliver Everyday I look for meaning.
