I love structure, especially in areas where there is often very little structure, such as the arts. Although I like free verse, I also really admire poets who can work within the &#8220;rules&#8221; of structured poetry, such as, the Haiku, or certain rhyme schemes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/caro.ness\">Caro Ness<\/a>, in one of my other blogging groups, writes all her posts in poetry. She wrote the other day about another poet <a href=\"http:\/\/caronessauthor.wordpress.com\/2013\/04\/11\/nickers-and-ink\/\">Linda Ann Nickerson<\/a> who writes <a href=\"http:\/\/voices.yahoo.com\/how-write-acrostic-poem-1433107.html?cat=38\">Acrostic poems<\/a>. These are poems where the first letter of each of the lines eventually spells a word. When you become good at this you can start using the last letter of each line or letters within a line. It&#8217;s a great way to start writing poetry, but it is also a fun way to simply create a poem. For example,<\/p>\n<p>Saturday<\/p>\n<p>Saturday for me is a holiday.<br \/>\nA vacation from all that is drudgery.<br \/>\nTime for shopping and cleaning, or<br \/>\nUnexpectedly sealing, a<br \/>\nReally bad leak or a scratch on the<br \/>\nDoor, plus the latch needs a screw<br \/>\nAnd the grass needs a mower<br \/>\nYour holiday starts when the chores are over.<\/p>\n<p>The first letter of each line, when put together spell Saturday.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/lifeiswhathappens.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/knittng.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em;margin-right: 1em\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"253\" src=\"http:\/\/lifeiswhathappens.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/knittng.jpg\" width=\"320\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>It&#8217;s a short post today. I&#8217;m away at a knitting retreat with 24 other fibre artists.
