Coincidence never ceases to amaze me. I work in my garden from March to October often 4 or 5 hours a day. I am always looking for a project. This time I decided to move an existing storage shed to the back of the garden and add something more aesthetic – summer house maybe – in place of the old shed. When I ordered Michael Pollan’s book from the library, I thought I was about to read the story of a person building a cabin while living off grid. No, the Cosmos sent me what I needed at the time – the story of someone building the equivalent of a bunkie in their backyard. The philosophy of architecture never read so well, sounded so exciting or bequeathed so much purpose to the ubiquitous shed. I loved the book and have ordered another one of his “best-sellers.” I now have to put art, history, life and meaning behind a 8′ x 6′ structure in front of a climbing Hydrangea – wish me luck!
