Angels

I lived this poem today as an afterthought. I have to live in a logical world. I need to be grounded. My escape into the mystical world of hopes and dreams is through music and poetry.

However, I study music as a cerebral exercise – music theory, conservatory exams etc. and I comment on poetry as a writing exercise complete with all the grammar rules.

These are external controls to reign in a maverick mind. I can’t let myself believe in that other world, because I would be gone.

At my music lesson today we talked a little of the creative mind and my music teacher asked me if I believed in mystical inspiration. I shrugged the idea off, perhaps a little too quickly.

I’m afraid of going there. It is unknown territory and yes, I am terrified. In the mystical mazes of the mind there are no maps, no logic, no escapes. Your only hope is angels.

So, yes, I believe in angels.
