Why I Blog

I am in another mini blog challenge. It’s only a 15 day challenge and you can post everyday or just once a week. The group is more author – publisher focused so I thought that I would read a few blogs there as I posted.  The one catch is, your blog has to be “new” material or a past post – “improved.”

I really must admit, I find it easier to post everyday than, let’s say, once a week or once a month. With a daily post, I get to write about all the little things that may get forgotten by the end of the week and definitely by the end of the month. It’s a little like creating a magical world where small things such as changing a wiper blade are elevated or “celebrated.” And suddenly these little things become important and my life doesn’t seem as hum-drum. Blogs also give a home to my pictures and push me to take more pictures, which is very therapeutic too.

A pretty morning

Anyway, this new challenge has asked “what is your favourite blog.” I’m not sure that I have a favourite. I have a few that have come together better than others – we’ve all had times like that!! I now have the opportunity to go back to the ones that didn’t work out as well and improve them – more great therapy!

I do have a blog that I refer to more often than others. It’s a very emotional one for me. I wrote it for Remembrance Day 2010. Here it is “Dulce Et Decorum Est – Pro Patria Mori.”

The one I improved for the writer’s challenge is A Calm Exterior – it’s about renting one of those storage lockers and I added these paragraphs.

“In fact, as clean and organized as the building may seem, it is very eerie. I am usually on my own when I take things over to the unit. I rarely see anyone there.  I really feel much safer, if a few people are loading or unloading their belongings, when I’m dropping off my “stuff.” At least, if I call for help, someone will hear me.

It’s the days when not a soul is around, that the halls moan. The void is pregnant with a fear, that slowly grows. I fumble with the lock. The shriek of the door as it opens, takes my breath. I drop a box of ornaments. The echo shatters on the far walls. Now, they know I’m here. I work quickly. My mind is so busy shutting out the horror, that I don’t see the shadow at first, it moves; I freeze.

“Is everything alright?” a voice says.”

 Have a great day!
