OK, I know that I don’t know everything, even though I often suggest to my children and my husband that I at least know more then they do….ahem. Anyway I was surfing around on my trusty MAC this morning looking for something of interest, since I had just finished a photography challenge and it looked like rain outside anyway and I didn’t really want to do any work…you know how it goes – using a time waster to find something to waste time on….anything.
Well I came across this neat site – http://www.squidoo.com – the object of the site is to have you create pages or “lenses,” as they call them about anything you please. I guess it’s a lot like blogging, but on a larger site and it maybe has more esoteric material than others or something. Anyway, I liked the idea of having a source of random – there’s that word again – topics at my fingertips.
I had just started the introduction to the site which included some suggestions on topics, when I read this sentence – “Go ahead and write extensively on Scottish Fold Cats, if you like.” Well I had never heard of Scottish Fold Cats and my interest was piqued.
I did a quick google search and found out that all Scottish Fold cats are descended from a white barn cat named “Susie,” who was discovered on a farm in Perthshire Scotland in 1961. She was distinctive because her ears folded forward giving her an “owlish” looking face.
A neighbour decided to breed her and follow the genetic patterns. That story is covered in Wikipedia. Briefly, the fold is due to a dominant gene and through selective breeding, breeders have been able to increase the single fold to two or three folds – a cat called “Origami” – maybe.
Scottish Fold Cats also like to lie on their backs – I have one like that – and to sit up with their front paws across their stomachs – something known as the Buddha position.
In this position they could perhaps be taught to knit. Gotta get me a Scottish Fold Cat and I thought that I would never have another cat – but the possibility of teaching a cat to knit – well it’s so random as my daughter would say!!!
