This winter it was easy to live this poem. Most of the time between mid-November and mid-March “Life was a barren field/frozen with snow.” I did escape, though, to follow a dream I have kept alive for at least four months. In mid-March I flew to Spain to walk my third Camino with my son. It was magical!!
My various Caminos have helped me pursue my challenge of “no negatives.” I’m trying to erase negative thoughts, negative phrases and negative actions from my life. Politics these days have made this almost impossible. However, I still hold onto the dream that this will all change and life will become a positive force again.
Although I love this poem, I think I have to change the imagery if I am going to remain positive. Let me offer:
Hold fast to dreams
For in them lie
The beating wings
That make us fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For in them grow
The magical places
Free spirits go.
This is why I don’t write poetry. I’ll think about these lines and see if I can come up with something a little better.

OK, I know sparrows don’t fly very far. In fact they stay here all winter and suffer like the rest of us. Their dreams maybe just finding a crumb (read poem) or two to keep them going. Sound familiar?
