Charmed Artist

I love the work of Shary Boyle. I have written about her before. I became fascinated with her Art because she created figures, a little like Royal Doulton collectables, except that she dressed her “people” in real lace dipped in porcelain and they all had 6 fingers to each hand. It’s the doll-like charm hiding […]

“Never, never, never give up…”

This is a quotation from Winston Churchill. It formed the opening lines of the president’s address to the graduating class at Dalhousie 2012. And here is a video of the amazing proof of this belief. You will need Kleenex. He sings The Rose, but that’s not all there is. Have a very successful day!!

“Some are born great…..

…some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them.”  And I would like to add that some just live down the road from greatness and feel that their lives are elevated by mere happenstance or serendipity. This is what I posted for the heading “old” in the latest photo scavenger hunt.  It’s the side

Crazy Maypole II

I neglected to mention in an earlier post the tradition of the Maypole which predates Christianity in Northern Europe and Britain. Ingrained….

Another heading in the photo scavenger hunt is “grain.” I had actually seen these figures last year and I remember taking a picture of one of them, then.  Well, here were three in a grouping, today!! The carvings suggest, I think anyway, that the figures were actually in the wood all the time and the

Did you miss an opportunity like this……

Someone posted this to my Facebook wall and it spoke to me.  I am someone who believes in random encounters with the divine…. This is so awesome. Please take a moment to read: A man sat at a metro station in Washington DC and started to play the violin; it was a cold January morning.

Nuit Blanche VI

This is the sixth time that we have gone out for Nuit Blanche – an all night outdoor art extravaganza that takes over the city from 7:00pm to 7:00am.  About a million people pour onto the streets of downtown Toronto to catch as many outdoor (some indoor) art installations as possible. I love Nuit Blanche

Infrastructure and the soul…

OK, I wasn’t going to post this picture, or write it up; but it’s been haunting me and so I have to place it somewhere.  I decided to take the shot because it caught my eye while I was looking for boxes in the box room/gallery.  My son stores his canvases in my “box” room at

Black-Eyed Susans This is day 5 in my photo a day challenge and I just happened to have picked this jug of Black-Eyed Susans. There was something about the jug that reminded me of the sunflower pictures of Van Gogh.  Van Gogh “Sunflowers” The picture is actually a cross between a Van Gogh and a
